YES! reveals list of Top 20 Endorsers this August!!

It is no longer enough for today’s celebrities to know how to sing, dance, and act. There is a new barometer that measures how brightly one’s star shines—endorsements. Today’s celebrities must have a significant clout among consumers, influencing them not only to want to be like them, but also to want to use the products they endorse.

This August, YES! brings back its list of the Top 20 celebrity endorsers. First released in 2008, the YES! List of Top 20 Endorsers still collects the insights of advertising and marketing practitioners in the country and talent managers in local showbiz.

YES! ups the ante this year by also revealing the cumulative earnings of each star from their endorsements in 2010 and early 2011. YES! says, “While [we are] still using multiple sources, impartial investigation, and disintegrated computation, our educated guesses have become more mathematical in fact.”

Maintaining her top spot is queen of all media, Kris Aquino. Manager Deo Endrinal says of his ward’s deep connection with consumers, “Kris has never been afraid to share her interior life. She has always been transparent… [and] there is always an attempt at authenticity.”

Other stars who also made it to the list are John Lloyd Cruz, Kim Chiu, Sarah Geronimo, Marian Rivera, and Dingdong Dantes. See also how this year’s list compares to the 2008 list, with stars dropping out of the list and new stars taking their place.

Find out who else made it to the list by grabbing a copy of the August issue of YES!, which also features the kitchens of Regine Velasquez, Richard Gomez, and Janice de Belen. YES! is available in newsstands, bookstores and supermarkets nationwide for only P100.

You can also become a fan of YES! on Facebook via Facebook.com/yesmagazine.ph. A digital version of YES! is available for international subscribers, visit PEP.ph for subscription details.

"The Voice" hottest new show from AXN premiere this August!!

A singing competition where looks don't matter. This is the innovative format of the newest show coming first and exclusively from AXN. "The Voice" format features the three stages of competition; the first begins with blind audition, then the competition enters into a battle phrase, and finally, the live performance. Only one will be named "The Voice" - and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract and $100,000.

Hosted by Carson Daly (Last Call with Carson Daly, Jimmy Kimmel’s Live!), The Voice boasts a cast of four A-list celebrity judges – Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, rapper-crooner Cee Lo Green, R&B diva Christina Aguilera and country singer Blake Shelton who have sold more than 70 million albums combined – fronting the show as coaches. They must each pick a team of eight singers from the blind auditions (where if more than one coach spins around, the contestant gets to pick) and personally mentor each of them, before whittling the 32 singers down to 16 for the battle rounds. Each coach has a high stake in the game, with bragging rights accorded to whoever has the overall winner in their team.

Featuring an all-star panel of coaches: (from left; Blake Shelton, Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green (Gnaris Barkley).

The Voice has proven itself to be more than a gimmick, as the only new show this season on a major US broadcast network whose ratings rose 10% for its second episode, as compared to its premiere episode which drew in 11.8 million viewers, a big draw especially for the younger 18-34 demographic. As the Los Angeles Times summed it up, “what makes The Voice worth watching, in addition to the clever conceit, is the chemistry among the judges, and the stories.” Indeed, no reality show can ask for a more entertaining bunch of judges than the four, who bounced banter off one another and elicited chuckles with their antics in wooing each contestant to join their team. Aguilera, for one, flirted blatantly with a good-looking male contestant by asking him to first take off his hat, then his pants.

What also sets The Voice apart from other singing competition reality shows is the level of genuine involvement the coaches have with their team members, pushing them on to realize their best potential. The contestants get to learn from their mentor’s showbiz experience and even get the rare chance to perform together as equals on stage! As Aguilera explained at The Voice’s press conference in Los Angeles recently, “There is no good and bad. This isn’t about tearing people down. I want to bring these people up. The Voice really does stand for what it says.”  The battle rounds is also when voting opens up to the viewers, where each iTunes purchase counts as a vote for the contestant. The emerging victor receives US$100,000 and a record deal.

From ages 16 to 42, the contestants are an incredible mix in their musical styles and ethnicities – expect a blues-rock chick in her forties with a shaved head and neck tattoos, an African American raised by white Mormon parents and topped with a striking Afro, to a controversial former Idol contestant and even a folksy duo, a married couple who auditioned for the show as a team!

Episode one opened with a rousing group performance of Gnarls Barkley’s Crazy by all four coaches, certainly a sign of more such fan treats to come. Also to look out for in the show are Cee Lo’s elaborate costume getups (think red robes with spiked shoulder pads!), the chemistry between the coaches and contestants, as well as the friendly, sizzling competition especially between Aguilera and Levine in the blind auditions. Sunday nights will never be lacklustre again, when AXN  kick starts its two-hour broadcast of The Voice this August! Sit back, relax and like the judges, listen with your very own ears. We guarantee that the amazing calibre of contestants in The Voice will blow you away!

Congrats to AXN for coming out of this new show for sure it'll hit!!!

Captain America is my "Star Spangled Man"

Captain America is a fictional character,  a superhero that appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics.  Captain America was ranked 6th on IGN's Top 100 Comic Book Heroes in 2011.

Since then,  the character has been featured in several other films and television series,  the most recent being Captain America: The First Avenger,  scheduled for release on July 22, 2011.

Here's the trailer of the Captain America: The First Avenger.

I like the story that after being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals. Ooh and I love his transformation. I admire his determination to be part of military services, despite of discriminating him with his physical looks. I can't wait to see the full movie.

Four-time NBA Champion, All Star and NBA Legend Horace Grant and the New York Knicks City Dancers were in town recently as the NBA celebrities of the first-ever NBA 3-on-3 Philippines 2011 presented by Sprite.

Besides exciting on-court competitions, NBA fun games and skills challenges, one of the highlights of the event was an NBA Cares Basketball Clinic that Grant conducted among Pasay City kids at the Pasay City Sports Complex. Over 100 boy and girls playing in barangay leagues in Pasay participated in the event.
