McDonald’s boosts QSR work immersion, provides world-class training for students in Makati City

In a bid to strengthen its commitment to support the learning and development of the youth, Golden Arches Development Corporation (McDonald’s Philippines) signs a partnership with the City Government of Makati and with the Department of Education (DepEd) through the Schools Division Office of Makati City to help prepare senior high school students in the city for employment through the Work Immersion Program (WIP).

Recognizing the potential of every student to contribute to society and to the growth of organizations, McDonald’s Philippines inks a memorandum of agreement with Makati Mayor Abby Binay and with the Department of Education through the Schools Division Office of Makati. Through the agreement, McDonald’s commits to train over 500 Senior High School (Grade 12) students from seven participating schools, namely: University of Makati, Fort Bonifacio High School, Pitogo High School, Nemesio Yabut High School, Maximo Estrella High School, Benigno Aquino High School, and Makati High School. The students will be assigned across the 23 McDonald’s stores in Makati City, and in the company’s head office to learn more about restaurant operations and gain firsthand experience and knowledge in the industry.

“McDonald’s champions in youth employability and is committed to provide young Filipinos equal employment opportunities. Through this partnership, we aim to immerse students in a natural working environment where they can develop values, knowledge and basic competency skills that will be helpful in their future careers,” says Chona Torre, SVP for Human Capital Group of McDonald’s Philippines.

Under the agreement, students will need to fulfill the 80-hour requirement by DepEd as a prerequisite for graduation. Students under the academic track will be exposed to corporate tasks in human resources, IT, and Finance; while students under the technical vocational livelihood track with sub-specializations in cookery, bread and pastries, and food and beverage will be exposed in restaurant operations.

McDonald’s remains steadfast in its commitment to being the partner of the government in the development of young learners by equipping them with life-long skills and work experience that enable them to support their studies and progress in their chosen careers.

Following the company’s recent partnership with Mandaluyong City for WIP, Manila City and Pasig City for persons with disability (PWD) and senior citizens (SC) employment, McDonald’s is aggressive in sealing more partnerships with different cities to roll out employment opportunities for more Filipinos.

Since its establishment in the Philippines in 1981, McDonald’s advocates for equal employment and have practiced direct hiring policy or the non-practice of contractualization for all its restaurant employees.

This World Pasta Day, San Remo PH asks “What Shapes You?”

One of my comfort food is Pasta! Pastas come in all shapes and sizes. There are the familiar favorites – spaghetti, macaroni, and lasagna – and there are also the more unique ones like the bowtie-shaped farfalle, the spiraled fusilli, and many more.

Do you know that for San Remo Philippines, pastas are more than just wonderfully shaped noodle varieties? For them, pasta is the secret ingredient that shapes great family bonding experiences and memorable moments.

Pasta is undoubtedly an endearing favorite that has shaped how Filipinos bond. They have been part of numerous family dinners, romantic dinner dates, and even as baon lovingly prepared by Filipino moms everywhere.

To celebrate World Pasta Day and highlight the Filipinos’ affinity for the scrumptious mealtime staple, San Remo asks “What Shapes You?” because pasta can mean so much to different people. It’s a childhood favorite, a dinner-time staple, and the ultimate party meal all rolled into one hot and heaping bowl. The pastabilities are endless.

For me, my moments with my family shape me! They are the reason why I still love to live and cherish every single moments with them. They allow me to love them the way I can only be. They accept all my flaws and love me no matter what happen. Even our simple Spaghetti moment make me a happiest person in the world because we share and enjoy having each other over our favorite pasta.

Here’s how to spot a low-quality diaper

As mothers who only want what’s best for your little ones, choosing the best diaper brand is crucial in ensuring your baby’s utmost comfort and well-being. With a lot of diaper brands out in the market, the natural inclination is to go for low-cost, low-quality diaper options, however, cheaper may not always mean more savings. In fact, investing in high-quality diapers can turn out to be more friendly to the pockets in the long run.

So how do you know when a diaper brand is of low quality? If it’s Lawlaw.
Pampers is here to help explain why a lawlaw diaper is a low-quality diaper.

Lawlaw diaper = lowlow quality

A strong indication of a low-quality diaper is a saggy diaper. When you spot a lawlaw diaper, it only means that wetness is absorbed in just one area. This uneven distribution of wetness shows that the entire diaper is not used up so it ends up getting full easily. This then results to more frequent diaper changes, which may in turn make you spend more in a day.

Lawlaw diapers may lead to skin rashes

Because lawlaw diapers are lowlow in quality, pee is concentrated in just one area. This creates a pool of wetness inside the diaper, and when baby’s skin is soaked in wetness, it is more likely prone to diaper rashes. Studies also show that low-quality diaper users experience 2x more leakage than less-lawlaw diaper users.

Lawlaw diapers can hinder baby’s mobility

According to the 2013 Go Naked study1, saggy or lawlaw diapers may hinder baby’s ability to walk properly. This bulkiness is caused by the undistributed pee inside a diaper that may lead to discomfort and difficulty for baby to rove around and play.
Taekwondo World Champion, Janice Lagman Lizardo (@jan_lizardo), shares on her recent Instagram post how she values her son Jace’s playtime: “We would always want our babies happy and feeling comfortable with whatever they do especially when they are playing…I decided to switch to Pampers which absorbs the pee evenly from front to back. This diaper is less lawlaw so Jace can play as long as he likes without interruptions from his diaper.”

Lawlaw diapers may end up being more expensive

In the recent survey of Pampers PH, 92% of the moms agreed and noticed that Pampers is less ‘lawlaw’ compared to the previous diaper brand their kids were using.
If you count the number of diapers used in a day of cheaper diapers vs Pampers diapers, it might come as a surprise that moms may end up using more with cheaper diapers due to the frequent changes. In a day, for instance, it usually takes only 2 diaper changes* with Pampers and about 3-4 changes when using cheaper diapers. That’s actually 2x more spend vs choosing Pampers.

In the world of mommyhood, quality and value for money are of the same importance. This is why Pampers encourages moms to be more proactive when choosing the best diaper brand that will carry on their love and care for their babies. It is always more thoughtful to know that choosing less lawlaw means choosing quality for your baby, and in the long run, this will be more beneficial for your baby as much as it is for your savings.

The Last Tree Lists How Kids Can Care for the Environment

Award-winning author and commercial voice actor Gutch Gutierrez highlights the importance of caring for the environment in his latest picture book, The Last Tree. Published by Hiyas, OMF Literature’s imprint for children’s books, this post-apocalyptic story uses catchy rhymes and striking illustrations to list the many roles of trees.

As a bonus, the book also features a fun infographic that suggests simple ways to be a good steward of God’s creation. The infographic is doodled by Gutch’s wife, Rory Gutierrez, and lists seven simple ways children (and even adults!) can be a good steward of creation.

Here are some tips listed in the infographic:
Plant a tree once a year. As the book shows, a world with no trees is a desolate place. Aside from teaching kids the importance of trees, adults must also encourage children to plant them. This way, kids will learn how to be responsible for the environment at an early age. Not only that, planting trees can be a great bonding activity between parents and their children, too!

Save water. It may sound obvious to many people, but some often take this tip for granted. Simple acts, like closing the faucet after using it, could help save clean water for the use of future generations.

Shop secondhand. Not only will buying pre-loved items save you money, you also help reduce the need for raw materials to make more products. This means less need to cut down trees, or mine for coal, or produce harmful chemicals that hurt the planet.

The Last Tree is one of the exciting new offers of Hiyas, OMF Literature’s imprint for children’s books, this 2019. It is available at National Book Store, OMF Lit Bookshop, Passages, and other leading bookstores nationwide for P120.00. The book can also be ordered online through omflit.com. Forecasts Fulfilled at Feng Shui Convention Preview

Do you know that the Year of the Metal Rat 2020 will be a year of new beginnings? New opportunities, love and business or career success.  This is what the countrys feng shui queen, Marites Allen, hinted at the press conference for the 15th Marites Allen Philippine Feng Shui Convention held at Novotel Manila Araneta City last October 9.

Ms. Allen started by doing a recap of the happenings in 2019, the Year of the Earth Boar, as published in the feng shui booklet for 2019 distributed at the convention last November 2018.  One of the things I indicated here was the outlook for career, that women who are leading a certain country will be challenged and could eventually leave their post.  Examples were Prime Minister Theresa May of the United Kingdom and Angela Merkel of Germany. And it did happen as Prime Minister May resigned in June of this year while Merkel left her party in December of 2018. This is just one of the forecasts revealed at the 2018 convention, she shared.  Forecast on business and economy, anything to do with restaurants, food, commissary or human consumption business will prosper thats why you see a lot of restaurants and food business in the malls.  Also healing business such as yoga prospered.

Ms. Allen continues, If you are born in the DAY or YEAR of the SNAKE then you are in CONFLICT with the YEAR of the BOAR. She cited famous personalities who passed away this year such as Gina Lopez and Eddie Garcia because both were born in the year of the Snake while Amalia Fuentes, who was born in the year of the Dragon, but her sign was in conflict with the month of October, which is the month of the Dog. This is the reason why praying, doing charity work and wearing your pampaswerte and pangontra is very important, she adds.

The press conference was a preview to the November 24 feng shui convention where, Ms. Allen will discuss forecasts on love, health, wealth, and career; ways on how to enhance the lucky sectors and downplay the unlucky sectors; meanings of special numbers; and how to tap your guide spirit.  She will also share how to have miracle mornings; how to create a wealth vase for 2020; how to do a vision board for 2020 and beyond; and reveal whats on your destiny chart for the Year of the Metal Rat.

2020 is considered a year of new beginnings and renewals because it is the year that the Chinese Zodiac has come full circle, with the Rat being the first sign from the 12 animals cycle.  The Year of the Metal Rat Year is seen to be a strong, prosperous, and lucky year, and is a great year for founding and evolving.  The years of the Rat are: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020, and 2032.

Lastly, Ms. Allen cautions those born in the year which clashes with the animal sign of 2020, If you are BORN in the DAY or YEAR of the HORSE, then you are in CONFLICT with the Year of the RAT.

The press conference also served as the launching of Marites Allens 2020 horoscope books, Feng Shui Almanac and Planner, the 2020 Feng Shui App, and the Frigga e-commerce website.

Wondering whats in store for you for the Year of the Metal Rat?  Want to know how to maximize your good fortune in 2020? Secure your seats now for the 15th Marites Allen Philippine Feng Shui Convention happening on November 24, 2019 at the ballrooms of Novotel Manila Araneta City.  Get your tickets at Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/15th-marites-allen-philippine-feng-shui-convention-tickets-71031468033), call the following numbers: 0920-9509390 / 8188858/ 7360512 / 4707661 or email maritesallenevents@gmail.com.

Lamoiyan Corporation rolls out Kilusang Kontra Kuto Year 4

In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo rolls out Kilusang Kontra Kuto Year 4 activation at  Silangan Elementary School in Taguig. This is a yearly nationwide shampooing activity in its commitment to battle head lice infestation or pediculosis and eliminate the social stigma associated with it.

Lamoiyan Corporation is visiting 30 schools nationwide and targets to shampoo around 6,000 head lice infested students. Sample sachet products will also be distributed within the surrounding communities through this activity.

Contrary to popular belief, the persistent ailment does not only affect children or people who do not practice good hygiene. Through this year’s campaign, Lamoiyan Corporation aims to emphasize that pediculosis can happen to any people regardless of hair length, gender, age, and even social class.

“For the past years, Lamoiyan was able to raise awareness and debunk misconceptions surrounding pediculosis by spreading the correct information. Head lice infestation can occur to anyone and, hopefully, people would start helping affected individuals rather than discriminating because it is a concern that has a solution,” shared Lamoiyan Corporation Marketing Director Ruby Rose Cavestany.

Kilusang Kontra Kuto Year 4 has visited different schools across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao where Licealiz held educational talks, fun games, and free shampooing activity.

Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo initiated in 2016 the Kilusang Kontra Kuto, a coalition that has been battling head lice infestation nationwide for a kuto-free Philippines.

Now on its fourth year, Lamoiyan has partnered again with industry leaders such as DepEd, Drugstores Association of the Philippines (DSAP) and Mommy Bloggers Philippines to further spread the correct information about pediculosis and widely reach grass roots level.

Lamoiyan Corporation is inviting everyone to join their fight against head lice and be part of the Kilusang Kontra Kuto Year 4. To know more about the activities of Kilusang Kontra Kuto, visit www.facebook.com/licealiz.

RCBC, Liga ng mga Barangay work towards financial inclusion

Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) has taken the first steps to bringing its digital financial inclusion initiative to grassroots communities as it gets the support and commitment of Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (LNB).

The LNB led by National President Eden Pineda, presented its national executive board resolution stating that the organization is adopting DiskarTech: Kasosyo sa Asenso as a growth enabler and capacity-building measure for microenterprises in every barangay and its constituents. DiskarTech is a financial inclusion accelerator platform by RCBC that aims to stimulate economic activity to help uplift the unbanked and underserved Filipinos.

The strategic collaboration will focus on accelerating financial literacy, promoting inclusive digital economy, and empowering local communities. This supports the government digitalization efforts aligned with President Duterte’s 10-point economic agenda on investing on human capital development, and promoting technology and innovation for self-sustaining and inclusive development towards poverty alleviation.

LNB is the official organization of over 42,000 barangays throughout the country. It is committed to providing avenues and assistance to promote welfare and ensure success of the national government’s National Strategy for Financial Inclusion and National Retail Payments System.
“This financial inclusion accelerator will be pervasive throughout the country as it would address the huge gaps in financial services while reducing the number of unbanked and underserved communities,” said RCBC Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer Lito Villanueva.

By adopting DiskarTech, LNB will be taking an active role in leading workshops and programs on financial education and literacy with the assistance of the DiskarTech National Coordinating Team. They will also be engaging its member municipalities to appoint their own DiskarTech Community Leader (DCL) who will facilitate participation of residents and entrepreneurs in the program.
“DiskarTech will pave the way for the real transformation of our communities nationwide as it would provide opportunities to our constituents, giving them the chance to be part of the formal financial system through technology,” said Liga ng mga Barangay National President Eden Pineda.

In an effort to encourage economic activity, partner sari-sari stores or microenterprises will also be identified as Barangay Digital Community Centers (BDCCs) to serve as the go-to hub of every resident for their financial needs - whether it’s paying bills, depositing savings to their accounts, buying  micro insurance or sending money to their loved ones.

With this, RCBC hopes to turbocharge the growth of digital financial transactions in the country from the current one percent to a minimum of twenty percent by next year. Through DiskarTech, this initiaitve hopes to bring to realization the vision of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas of creating a cash-lite and digital economy for greater efficiency, security, interoperability, and affordability.
Joining LNB and 20 other existing partners, a number of private organizations have also signed up recently to join the DiskarTech financial inclusion ecosystem to benefit their respective constituents. These partners include Ka-Entrep Micro and Small Entrepreneurs Organization of the Philippines, Bangko Pangasinan, and Rizal Microbank, among others.

Rural bank Bangko Pangasinan and thrift bank Rizal Microbank also share how DiskarTech would empower the agriculture sector with access to basic financial needs and microfinance loans.

“DiskarTech is an open platform and the way it works is that banks like us can communicate with other banks. Similar to an open banking system, there will be no barriers and it will become interoperable to make it easier to reach and assist the underserved market,” said Gregory De Guzman, Bangko Pangasinan president and COO.

Joseph Lumain, Strategic Partnerships and Special Initiatives head at Rizal Microbank, agrees that DiskarTech will be an effective way to reach numerous individuals at the same time. “Basically, what DiskarTech is offering are the basic services of a bank through digital means. And in an era where almost everyone is tech-savvy, DiskarTech can be the perfect solution to present financial services in an understandable way, and eventually helping answer the issue of financial inclusion.”
