FILA and Athletes in Action Run for School Rooms

Education is indeed a right of every child. We’re all challenged to take part in solving our nation’s greater woes. Heeding to the call of the times, FILA and Athletes in Action (AIA) join forces to bring the biggest advocacy run to help raise funds for the rehabilitation of classrooms in Iligan city, which were badly hit by Typhoon Sendong back in 2011.
With 15,000 runners who have signed up to date, the Schools Run for School Rooms (SRSR) marathon will be gathering student-runners from major colleges and universities, to bring a glimmer of hope to Iligan city, where eager students have to do with makeshift classrooms as the school year starts.

Since 1911, FILA trace its roots from Biella, a province set at the foot of the Italian Alps. Unbeknownst to many, this small town brand is big on corporate social responsibility. At the recently concluded 2012 FILA Polo Cup, project “500 for 500” was launched by FILA President Butch Albert to help Typhoon Sendong victims once again by donating 500 pesos to 500 families for every purchase of Skele-Toes.

Skele-Toes are FILA’s latest line of revolutionary active footwear that is fast raising many eyebrows and causing the curious to utter #whattheheckisthat? For FILA, it’s simply a shoe that changes the game. Rock at the gym or at the party, Skele-Toes is just about the only shoe that fits – and Tim, Georgina, and Borgy all agree!

Not ready to rock the boat just yet? Then you’ll love FILA’s newest line of running shoes, Swerve and Flow. FILA Swerve boasts of a Dynamic Landing System through lightweight foam at the midsole and V3 techonology inserts at the heel. This gives you the proper support that you need in every step, without compromising style and design.

FILA Flow is perfect for the outdoor dweller with its heavy duty outsole, making every shock and bumps a breeze. This one will surely go with you to countless victories and finishes.

Whether you prefer a classic or a rocking pair of rubbershoes, it’s high time to give your tiresome trainers a break and take the Skele-Toes, Swerve, or Flow out for a spin. With your purchase of a pair of Skele-Toes and participation at the SRSR marathon, it’s definitely more fun to help with FILA!

Tickets and registration forms are available at SM Ticketnet outlets

BUM shows the young how to go back to school in style

Standing out at school doesn’t mean you have to constantly challenge the rules and break your school’s dress code.

So before you walk down the crowded hallway again, make sure you’re clad in cool pieces and armed with the right accessories that would reflect your no-nonsense rebel attitude.
Taking off from its successful “Teevolution” campaign, which called forth an outpour of vibrant colors, bold prints, and graphic ethnic patterns, innovative brand BUM helps the youngsters today stand out by upping their style quotient and street cred before the school year starts.

Veering away from the normal and the ordinary design concepts of most local clothing labels, BUM comes up with stylish yet functional bags that carry the brand’s style philosophy: the Modern Goth Look with a touch of Glam Rock (think studded pieces, motorcycle jackets, tapered pants, oversized shirts, and the like).

This utilitarian concept was made casual by BUM, turning motorcycle jackets into cropped ones and with notched collar jackets for boys. They can also go for the “casual cool” look with chino cuffed pants that allow them to swing from schoolwork to play without breaking a sweat.

Girls, who love pieces that can be mixed and matched with their favorite tops and bottoms, will be delighted to know that BUM has whipped up something new for them, as well. BUM introduces the rayon fabric for girls and exciting new designs such as 2-in-1 tops, casual blazers, and blouses with built-in mini designed to look like tunics.

Skinny jeans and jeggings have also found their way into BUM’s new collection. Stylish yet comfortable, these pants can flatter any shape and can be worn with a baggy top, a comfy cardigan, or a fitted jacket to create proportion. Girls with short legs can pair these with heels (stilettos or knee-high boots), while long-legged girls can opt for comfy flats.
Making a statement, however, is not limited to a person’s wardrobe. BUM has also come up with trendy bags that can complete one’s getup.

Splashed with catchy, statement patterns, the BUM Tote bag for girls/teens, for instance, are printed with provocative messages that speak volumes about the wearer’s personality or mood for the day.
Made of printed canvas mixed with poly-fine fiber, the BUM Reversible Bag is designed with eye-catching patterns and minimal accent details. Since both sides (inner and outer) have designs, it’s like having two bags in one!
Going back to school has never been this cool and fashionable.
BUM is available in leading department stores nationwide. For more information, visit bumequipment or like them on Facebook at B.U.M

LILY COLE... The Body Shop newest advocate

Lily Cole is the first ever global brand advocate of "The Body Shop". Activist, model, and actor. Lily is refreshingly honest, human, and upfront about how she thinks the world could be a better place. In this interview, Lily offers a glimpse into what makes her tick and why she chose The Body Shop as much as we chose her.

TBS:  WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A GLOBAL ADVOCATE FOR THE BODY SHOP?

Lily Cole:  I have long been an advocate of the potential of using business and consumer power to cause positive change. The Body Shop takes a responsible attitude to people and the environment, and it feels amazing to be supporting a brand who are pioneers in that way of working.

TBS:  HOW DO YOU FEEL THAT THE CURRENT GENERATION’S VIEWS OF BEAUTY ARE CHANGING?
Lily Cole:   I feel like people are questioning superficial values and looking for real
value instead. True beauty comes from within, and I feel that more and more people are beginning to realize that.

TBS:   WHAT DOES BEAUTY WITH HEART MEAN TO YOU?
Lily Cole:   There is nothing more attractive than someone with a beautiful heart - it just shines out. It is so contradictory to seek external beauty through products at the cost of other living beings. To me, beauty with heart means trying to achieve beauty in a way that is harmonious with your inner values.

TBS:  HOW HAS THE BODY SHOP INSPIRED YOU TO THINK DIFFERENTLY ABOUT BEAUTY?
Lily Cole:   The fact that The Body Shop was selling Henna when I was growing up definitely suggested that red hair was cool - before I was wise enough to recognize that myself! There is a natural quality to The Body Shop approach which places its emphasis on enhancing – rather than masking people’s faces!

TBS:   HOW DO YOUR PERSONAL VALUES COMPARE WITH THE FIVE CORE VALUES OF THE BODY SHOP?
Lily Cole:   The Body Shop has five distinct Values which have defined and shaped it from its very beginning, and which I also identify with. I am still learning and growing, and discovering what is important to me is an educational and very personal process. I’m involved with the humanitarian and environmental causes that are important to me
because I believe that our planet and the people who live on it are incredibly special. If I can help inspire people in some small way to think about the world they live in and how they can make it a better place through their own personal actions and choices, then that makes me happy. This is just one of the reasons why I am working alongside The Body Shop.

TBS:  HOW DO YOU LIVE YOUR VALUES ON A DAILY LEVEL?
Lily Cole:   My personal values boil down to my intention: the intention to be aware, to be kind, to be honest, to make informed choices. The intention is everything, though the reality will inevitably sometimes fall short. No one is perfect!

TBS:   WHAT INSPIRED YOUR INTEREST IN ACTIVISM?
Lily Cole:  All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” - Edmund Burke. I used to have that quote on my bedroom door growing up! I’m not saying I’m a good man, but I think as soon as you are aware of injustices you have a responsibility to try and address them... so I guess some of it is inspired by some sort of guilt complex!

TBS:  HOW CAN OTHER PEOPLE GET INVOLVED?
Lily Cole:  I am still constantly trying to find and know my own truth, to be fearless. I’m not sure there is ever an end to this. Being strong enough to stand within that position of difference and hoarding your voice is the first step towards activism. I believe it’s the small steps that matter.

TBS:   WHAT ELSE ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
Lily Cole: I have three films coming out this year, and am working on a very exciting, fairly radical, project in the social media space.

Georgina Wilson for Garnier Pure Active

Having a pimple is a big problem to me. Every time I had a pimple I always touch it and pop it if it’s dried.  Last weekend, I witnessed the “Meet the Garnier Girl” at Watsons, SM MOA. Georgina Wilson is the brand advocate and she aims to educate the Filipinos in the importance of proper skin care regimen especially in dealing with pimples. Many people have experienced following weird skin care practices like me just because they were told to, or because everybody’s doing it. Others wrong advice given includes the ever common use of toothpaste, lipstick and even calamansi.

With the launch of its newest line—Pure Active—Garnier presents a more reliable solution for fighting the six skin problems that Filipinos face.  These problems include pimples, whiteheads, oiliness, impurities, enlarged pores and unevenness. With a breakthrough solution of natural pimple-fighting ingredients, Garnier Pure Active delivers visible results from DAY 1.

With beauty advocate Georgina Wilson on board, Garnier aspires to disprove the use of crazy pimple remedies and give a better, safer, more reliable option—the Pure Active range.

The mini event had a question and answer portion wherein Gerogina Wilson answered the question of the Watson’s consumers. I even had chance to ask question too.

Me: Is there a proper way of putting the Garnier Pure Active Pimple roll-on?
Georgina: Apply the Garnier roll-on directly onto the pimples because it has 2 main ingredients; Salicylic Maximum Concentration at 2%, a powerful anti-bacterial ingredient with oil control and pore clearing properties; and Natural HerbaRepair™, a natural extract that repairs and regenerates the skin to prevent scarring—a better way to fix zit problems than using crazy pimple remedies. Just roll it directly on your pimple.

Watson’s Consumer: What’s your night beauty regimen?
Georgina:  I make sure to take off my make-up; I make sure to wash my face to take out my make-up. I also moisturize my face.

Watson’s Consumer: What is your personal secret on being beautiful and sexy?
Georgina: I drink lots of water and I ate healthy foods, lots of fruits and vegetables.

Watson’s Consumer: How many times do you take a bath in a day?
Geogina: Hahaha!! 6 times, I take a bath in the morning and also before I sleep.

“Look at it this way: your skin is your first layer of presentation. Would you want that layer treated with a shady substance? Of course not! Resorting to the use of weird home remedies is like a zit-fest waiting to happen. It only shows people that you don’t care about your face. Because let’s face it, looking good matters. Having a healthy skin matters. You won’t attract opportunities if you don’t care about how you look,” says Georgina.

A lot of factors come to play when facing the daily grind. With burdens thrown left, right and center, it’s hard for the busy Filipino not to neglect caring for his features. It’s a given fact that in a professional environment, and also in life in general, one needs to look presentable in order to be taken seriously.

This is where the stress comes in: most of the naive youth who are given the wrong skin care advice end up following it because it’s easier, not realizing that the use of these crazy home remedies might put the skin at risk and even cause potential damage.

“Using calamansi is like putting condiments on your face. And obviously, toothpaste is meant for dental purposes—something I overlooked when people told me to use it in the past. It’s embarrassing! And lipstick! Lipstick is for the lips, not for pimples! It’s just plain crazy. I have no idea where people got it from!” says Georgina. “I cannot stress enough how important it is to use the right product for your skin. Trust me on this; using skin products specially formulated to fight blemishes is the right thing to do. After all, once it’s your skin that’s on the line, you wouldn’t want it taken for granted, right?”

“Whether you’re about to meet a hot date or have a fun night-out with your girls, next time you’re bothered by a pimple, don’t be a hot mess, use Garnier Pure Active—It’s way better than using crazy pimple solutions!”

And lucky Watson’s consumer who purchased the Garnier products had their chance to strike a pose with Georgina Wilson.

Garnier combines the best of science and nature to bring out the natural beauty in anyone no matter what the age or lifestyle.
