The East of Metro Manila is also being hard hit by the pandemic crisis. Coping has been hard for all especially to our usual shopping habits.

As we slowly and carefully tread into the “new normal”, SM Supermalls in the East has prepared its malls with the minimum health measures as set by the national government. SM Center Angono, SM Cherry Antipolo, SM City East Ortigas, SM City Marikina, SM City Masinag, SM City San Mateo and SM City Taytay are now open to serve customers in this quarantine period.

Common high-touch areas are sanitized round-the-clock like hallways, ATMs, hand rails, grocery carts, etc. Elevator capacities are reduced to 50%, imposing one-way traffic in hallways, motorcycle parking are spaced one slot apart and deployment of Safety Protocol Officers to enforce social distancing are just few of the numerous measures imposed in each SM mall.

Jollibee Foods Corporation and PayMaya pioneer conversational commerce with ‘cashless’ ordering chatbot

Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) along with all of its food and restaurant brands in the country has begun piloting an interactive mobile ordering system via chatbot, with a seamless payment experience powered by PayMaya.

Customers in select areas can now use their credit, debit, or prepaid cards  as well as their PayMaya e-wallet accounts to pay for their favorite food items and meals via the Facebook Messenger channels of  Jollibee, Burger King, Chowking, Mang Inasal, and Red Ribbon -- which are all currently running on beta version.  This will soon be available in the Facebook messenger of Greenwich as well.

All they need to do is type “#order” and send this to the Facebook chatbot of their favorite JFC restaurant, select the meal they’d like to order, pay by selecting their preferred cashless payment option, and wait for their food to be delivered in their homes.

As an added treat, customers can get up to 100% cashback when they pay using their PayMaya registered mobile number upon ordering via chatbot with a minimum spend of P500.

“As we implement more stringent safety measures in this 'new normal', the availability of PayMaya’s cashless payments solutions helps ensure that both our customers and frontliner workers are protected, while at the same time giving them a more joyful experience when they order their favorite food from any of our brands," said Jollibee Global Brand CMO, JFC Philippines Country Business Group and concurrent Jollibee PH Marketing Head Francis Flores.

Offering cashless payment options via the Facebook chatbot is just the next step in the partnership between PayMaya and JFC.  In 2019, this partnership also helped pave the way for the launch of digital payments through self-ordering kiosks in Jollibee, Burger King and Chowking stores via the One by PayMaya Point-Of-Sale Device, and now has expanded its cashless payment option in 300 Jollibee stores.

“Over the past months we've seen an acceleration in the evolution of 'conversational commerce', with businesses and entrepreneurs harnessing their networks through chat apps to continue selling their products. During this time, businesses like JFC's brands need to be present where their customers are, and today most of the customers are online–so offering a wide variety of digital payment options ensures a safe and seamless ability for them to meet their business and customer needs," PayMaya President Shailesh Baidwan said.

Soon, JFC will also be rolling out PayMaya’s Digital Invoice solution when ordering online via its various brand's delivery websites or through their respective hotlines, allowing customers to receive an invoice with a payment link via SMS or email so that they can also pay using any card or using their PayMaya account.

Aside from enabling the cashless payments acceptance of various JFC brands, PayMaya has also partnered with Jollibee Group Foundation to allow them to receive donations from anywhere around the world via the #OneAgainstCOVID19 campaign website (pymy.co/jollibee) or through the Pay Bills function of the PayMaya app.

PayMaya is the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the Philippines with platforms and services that cuts across consumers, merchants, and government. Aside from providing the payments acceptance for the largest e-Commerce, food, retail and gas merchants in the Philippines, PayMaya is enabling national and social services agencies as well as local government units with digital payments and disbursement services.

Through its PayMaya app and wallet, it is providing millions of Filipinos with the fastest way to own a financial account with over 40,000 Add Money touchpoints nationwide, more than double the total number of traditional bank branches in the Philippines combined. Its Smart Padala by PayMaya network of over 30,000 partner agents nationwide serves as last mile digital financial hubs in communities, providing the unbanked and underserved with access to services.

A mother’s sacrifice: Heroic tales of love and care from mom frontliners

One trait that best defines moms is their being selfless -- always ready to make sacrifices for her family and her kids. This is particularly seen during these difficult times where mothers, particularly those in the frontlines, have stepped up to be the first line of defense of both their household and the community.

Honoring their heart for service, Lactum 3+6+ released a campaign tribute that pays gratitude to real-life moms who are at the frontlines, sharing their healing care to their fellow countrymen. Each of these women have their own motivations that keep them strong amid the crisis, but what they share in common is that they are true models of panalo parenting in these hard times.

Duty calls
Healthcare and medical workers like mommies Milinda Albario, Patricia Vasay, and Tessa Eusebio have an important role to fulfill in this health crisis. They are among the first responders in the hospitals and emergency rooms, tending to people confined with symptoms of COVID-19.

“When the COVID-19 outbreak hit the country, my ward was converted to an isolation ward receiving patients with the symptoms. As a nurse, I was assigned to closely administer the patients and was encouraged not to go home to avoid spreading the disease to our family,” says Milinda Albario. “I was very scared and worried, and I was always thinking about my children at home.”

Meanwhile, Patricia Vasay was appointed to the pediatric care ward in their emergency room. “During the first few weeks of the quarantine, I felt proud to be at the pediatric care. But as time went on, I felt frustrated because a lot of my co-workers were getting sick too and I was scared for myself and my son.”

Mommy Patricia Vasay, 33, Pediatrician

“We feel scared because you never really know if you’re going to get the virus while at work,” adds Eusebio. “But one thing that motivates me as a doctor is love for my family and my countrymen. I believe that it is a blessing to be able to do what you love most and be of service to others.”

Mommy Tessa Eusebio, 30, Physician

Keeping up with family in the pandemic
Being at the frontlines has lessened the amount of time spent by these moms with their precious kids at home. However, uniforms and duties aside, these strong women recognize that motherhood still comes first and that the safety of their children is their priority.

Policewoman Fatima Lanuza reflects on what being a mother means to her, sharing, “Being a mother has given me a sense of direction and purpose in life. It also taught me to be selfless and consider that every decision I make will affect my children’s future.”

Mommy Fatima Lanuza, 33, Policewoman

Currently, she is assigned at the Minalabac Municipal Police Station and is in charge of ensuring that people stay at home during the quarantine. She expresses gratitude for her kids for being her source of energy at the frontlines, “My little ones have been refueling me with their love and appreciation. They would send videos of them clapping as a way to thank frontliners. Just seeing them happy and safe at home makes me feel energized.”

Motherhood has also changed the outlook of volunteer worker and mom of 3, Chexcy Lorayna, who shares that her kids helped her become a better person. Despite the risks of working in the pandemic, she never fails to give her children some valuable lessons, “I always remind my kids that when we are serving other people, we are also serving God. I help them understand that other people need my help and seeing them behave and try to understand our situation gives me courage and comfort.”

Looking ahead to the future
“There are so many things that I miss about my kids, especially their hugs and kisses. But what I miss the most is time spent with them,” expresses Lorayna. “I believe that love is synonymous with time and I cannot wait to shower them with my affection and attention soon.”

Mommy Chexcy Lorayna, 36, Volunteer

When things go back to normal, these moms want nothing more than to be by their children’s side. Whether it’s play dates, movie nights, or weekend trips, they are looking forward to new bonding moments and enjoying fun activities with their kids again.

And as these selfless moms continue to be strong and caring for their family and the country, they only have one request for the Filipinos. Lanuza says, “We appeal to everyone to pray for us, the frontliners, the nation, and our families. This pandemic will soon be over. Please do not leave your homes, so we may live for the future.”

To help Filipino families affected by the pandemic, a P50 donation will be made for every Lactum 3+6+ purchased online. For the list of online partners, visit Lactum 3+6+ official Facebook page. Watch these moms in Lactum 3+’s touching Mother’s Day video on Facebook

Smile Train Global Ambassador Catriona Gray Joins Online Speech Therapy Sessions for Cleft Patients

The world’s leading cleft organization, Smile Train Philippines recently held a virtual speech therapy session with its Global Ambassador, Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, in an effort to reach and continue educating more patients with a cleft lip and/or palate amid the enhanced community quarantine.

Smile Train Global Ambassador Catriona Gray joins the organization’s online Speech Therapy session to reach and educate more patients with cleft lip and palate amid the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

Smile Train recently launched virtual speech therapy sessions with its volunteer Ms. Veronica Yu CSP-PASP, a Speech Language Pathologist and a faculty member of the University of Sto. Tomas College of Rehabilitation Sciences. She led the discussion on the effects of cleft disability on speech and the impact of feeding difficulties on the physical well-being of children. Ms. Yu also demonstrated her patients’ progress on proper pronunciation, which they were able to accomplish during the separate one-on-one online therapy sessions.

Smile Train Volunteer Ms. Veronica Yu, CSP-PASP, a Speech Language Pathologist, faculty member of the University of Sto. Tomas College of Rehabilitation Sciences, explored topics about the effects of cleft on speech and its impacts on the physical well-being of children.

The session also allowed viewers to ask questions about their family members experiencing difficulties with their conditions. Numerous viewers had inquiries about how many speech therapy sessions are required and what other procedures patients need to undergo if they have cleft lip and/or palate.

In her welcome message, Smile Train Global Ambassador Catriona Gray acknowledged the efforts of the organization to continue providing free comprehensive cleft care including speech therapy, while free surgeries and physical therapy sessions are on hold. She plans to support Smile Train’s upcoming initiatives during the ECQ.

“I was able to work closely with Smile Train for the first time during my reign as Miss Universe and it inspired me to help the organization change the lives of many people around the world. Now as the newest global ambassador, I am committed to supporting its patients in the Philippines during this pandemic through the organization’s online speech therapy classes,” said Gray.

With the support and collaboration of its donors, partners, and ambassadors around the world, Smile Train is able to transform the lives of patients with cleft and help improve their ability to eat, breathe, speak, and ultimately thrive. Even during the ECQ, Smile Train continues to find sustainable solutions such as social media to help their beneficiaries.

“Smile Train has always been committed to exploring various avenues and utilizing technology to reach more patients and communities in the Philippines, especially during this ECQ. With the support of Catriona, we hope to reach more patients and families so that we can continue to provide them with the care that they need, even during a pandemic,” said Smile Train South East Asia Director Kimmy Flaviano.

Smile Train plans to hold more sessions in the coming weeks to address concerns of patients or parents about receiving cleft treatment during this time and talking about staying positive and productive during the ECQ.

Feel good this Mother’s Day with this tribute to moms and frontliners

This Mother’s Day may feel a little tougher than usual because of the challenging times we live in, but that doesn’t mean it has to be cancelled this year.

NutriAsia, the leading producer and distributor of sauces and condiments in the Philippines — home of well-loved brands Datu Puti, Silver Swan, UFC, Mang Tomas, and Papa, decided to pay tribute to the wonderful moms who have always been there for us through a funny but heartwarming Mother’s Day video of a son asking his mom for some help in cooking.
In the video, a son calls his mom up because he needs her help in cooking some ulam with some limited ingredients. The mom adorably does her best to teach her son even though using new technology can be challenging for her.

Showing that a mother knows exactly what to do with what she has, the mom shows her son that even with simple ingredients like a can of luncheon meat, a couple of carrots, and some potatoes in the fridge he can cook a Masarap at Masayang menudo, especially with the help of a pouch of UFC Ready Recipes Menudo Sauce she left in her son’s apartment.

UFC Ready Recipes Sauces are a range of ready to use cooking sauces, made from ingredients such as real tomatoes, selected spices and meat flavors. UFC Ready Recipe Sauces are convenient and easy to use. It is pre-mixed and pre-seasoned, and all you have to do is to pour the sauce and let it simmer. It’s available in different variants like Afritada, Menudo, Caldereta and Mechado.

At the end, it’s revealed that she raised a great, caring kid who looks out for others, as it turns out that he was cooking some food to give away to our brave frontliners!
The video is definitely inspiring and perfect for Mother’s Day, as it shows us that our moms do know best and we can always turn to her for help whenever we need it—and, of course, that the best children are raised by the best mothers.

You too can show your mom some love on Mother’s Day! Easily make a Masarap at Masayang meal for her at home this Mother’s Day! You may visit https://nutriasia.com/recipe/ for recipe ideas!

#SalamatSaAlaga: Lactum 3+ pays tribute to a mother’s love and sacrifice during difficult times

It goes without saying that being a mother is no easy feat, especially so amid the ongoing pandemic. There are many strong women - from medical professionals and pharmacists, to policewomen, and government and volunteer workers - who have been called to duty to serve the needs of their countrymen in these trying times.

Lactum 3+ honors the selfless love and strength of moms, taking care of their families and serving their fellow Filipinos in these trying times.

Honoring their heroic heart for the nation, Lactum 3+ and 6+ releases a Mother’s Day campaign video that pays tribute to mom frontliners as they continue the fight against the health crisis and share their healing care that is felt at home to every Filipino in need.

Directed by filmmaker Pepe Diokno, “Alaga” is a heartwarming video told in a perspective of a child and showcases gratitude to the endless love and selfless sacrifice of moms. The campaign film features footages shot by real moms that take viewers through moments shared with kids with a poignant narration that recognizes how mothers display their touch of alaga even in difficult times.

“When situations are tough and things get scary, we always run to our moms and rely on them to be at their best. That is why this Mother’s Day, we want to say thank you to the mothers who show panalo parenting even in these times as they devote their time and health to help the nation, all while caring for their kids away from home,” said Lea Sarmiento, Senior Product Manager for Lactum.

Among the mom frontliners featured in the video is Kristine Frances Bustamante, a nurse in Camarines Sur who shares how the lockdown has limited her time spent with her kids. She says, “My usual work finishes before lunch time so I can eat together with my kids. But since lockdown, I had to stay in my work area to avoid risk of exposure to my kids. When I get home, no hugs or no kisses for a while.”

Another supermom, Aures Queen Trecho who is a bank teller, shares how she is responding to her duty to serve. “Currently, my daughter is being taken care of by my cousin because I am a single mom. I am aware that during this time of crisis, I still need to work and at the same time, take necessary precautions to not get so I can continue my duties.”

Sarmiento adds, “We recognize the fight that these mom frontliners are bravely going through for their children, their family and the nation. At Lactum 3+6+ and the entire Mead Johnson Philippines family along with our Reckitt Benckiser colleagues around the world, we are fighting alongside them as we continuously provide readily-available access to highest quality hygiene, wellness, and nourishment in cities and provinces so families will be safe and assured in these tough times.”

A mother’s love for children with disabilities

Mothers Donna Lim, Alex Arroyo and Juliet Brecino are great inspirations for many families across the country. These women have been helping parents wade through the high waters of raising children with disabilities as they, too, are raising children with disabilities of their own. And doing so is certainly not made easy due to the COVID-19 pandemic that pose a threat especially to these children who typically have challenged immune systems.

With the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Luzon and other parts of the country to contain the spread of the virus, disruptions to daily routine became an inevitable reality for countless Filipinos.

(Mommy Donna with her daughter Desly)

One challenge that Mommy Donna is currently experiencing is ensuring that the daily routine of her daughter Desly who is on the autism spectrum, stay as consistent as possible, because any changes to their day-to-day activities can affect the behavior of her daughter.

“If they notice that something is not part of their usual routine, they become worried. It may even upset them,” says Donna.

To mitigate this, she has been helping Desly understand that they have to change the way they go through their day so that they can stay safe and healthy.

(Mommy Alex with her daughter Aria)

On the other hand, with the “new normal” demanding cleanliness more than ever, the challenge for Mommy Alex is getting her daughter with special needs, Aria, to practice proper personal hygiene. This is why her family has been diligently following ECQ rules, so that Aria can learn by example.

“We definitely follow ECQ rules strictly. We stay at home and we only go out for essentials, and if we do, we ensure that we are wearing facemasks, face shields, and even gloves sometimes. And the moment that we get home, we disinfect. We take a shower.”

               (Mommy Juliet with son JM)

Strictly following ECQ rules is a must in order for children with disabilities to avoid getting sick. Aside from this, parents must also ensure that these children are eating healthy, just like what Mommy Juliet is doing with her son JM who is visually-impaired, whose passion is signing Broadway songs and joining singing contests.

“I make sure he eats vegetables and I always give him vitamins,” says Juliet.

As the world celebrates Mother’s Day with this global health crisis in the background, these moms are focusing on the most important thing – the health, safety and well-being of their children, showered with the kind of love and care that only a mother can give.

Knowing the important roles that they play in the lives of their children, Donna, Alex and Juliet are doing everything they can to protect their loved ones.

Their selfless dedication to motherhood is something that should be celebrated, which is why, this Mother’s Day, SM Cares honors all mothers, especially those who are raising children with special needs.

“SM Cares understands the challenges of parents – especially mothers of children with disabilities. Their immense love and sacrifice for their children is something that we truly admire. We wish them the best of blessings, especially for this year’s Mother’s Day celebration,” said Engr. Bien Mateo, Head of the SM Cares Program on Persons with Disabilities.

A Stay Home Date with Mom: SM curates delivery services in Viber in time for Mom’s Day

SM Supermalls encourages everyone to celebrate Mother’s Day at home in line with the implementation of the enhanced community quarantine. To further encourage the public to stay inside their homes, 30 SM malls in Metro Manila and nearby areas in Bulacan and Rizal are curating information on the delivery services of the restaurants present in their establishments in the Viber group Take Out and Delivery at SM.

Launched last April 13, the Take Out and Delivery at SM Viber initiative is a food guide that allows customers to explore the available options for delivery in time for special celebrations like Mother’s Day, or just for the satisfaction of regular food cravings. With the curation of the food guide, customers could now also easily identify the variety of food options available for delivery in their area. As of writing, the group has 80,000 members. The Take Out and Delivery at SM curators include in their message the following information: restaurant name, location, available time of service and food type.

Curators also include in their message the restaurants’ contact details since customers are required to transact directly with the establishments. Some of the restaurants in the group are also partners of some food delivery apps, such Grab Food, Lala Food and Food Panda.

SM Supermalls reminds those who will be engaging in home deliveries to continue exercising social distancing and to wear a face mask. The customers are also encouraged to wash their hands after every transaction.

SM, through SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI), recently constructed seven (7) insulated emergency quarantine facilities (EQFs) in Pasay and Quezon City to house and treat patients affected by the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

The interior of one of the Camp Crame facilities, which like the rest features beds, airconditioning units, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, restrooms, shower areas, and nurse lounges

Built by the SM Engineering Design and Development (SM EDD) team, and WTA Architecture and Design Studio, these include four facilities in Camp Crame and two facilities at the AFP Health Service Command  V. Luna in Quezon City; as well as one at the Air Force General Hospital  Villamor Air Base in Pasay City.

Completed within a span of six to ten days, these feature a total of 156 beds, air conditioning units, ceiling fans, exhaust fans, restrooms, shower areas, and nurse lounges. The EQFs are set to accommodate COVID-19 patients who are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

In the Camp Crame EQFs, each bed has a built-in call system and patients will have an access to Wi-Fi connectivity. PNP chief Gen. Archie Gamboa thanked SM Engineering Design and Development President Hans Chico Sy Jr. and WTA Architecture and Designs for their contributions to the facility.

Apart from contributing to the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, this social initiative also served as a platform for volunteeriSM for SM employees, especially those from SM EDD.

Through the EQF project, SM EDD employees were able to volunteer their time and expertise in constructing the insulated EQFs, an initiative that has received encouragement and strong support from the President of SM EDD, Hans Chico Sy Jr.

BOTEJYU is Japan’s premier specialty restaurant specializing in Okonomiyaki (a savory pancake and popular street food in Japan) and Okosoba (a combination of Okonomiyaki and stir-fry noodles Yakisoba—a very creative to-go food for the Japanese working class).

What makes it different is that it’s pressed, resulting in a crispy, crunchy flat sandwich that is deceptively thin but is packed with filling—and doesn’t leave you with a trail full of crumbs! The signature sandwich is a classic combo of slow-roasted pork, ham, pickles, mustard, and cheese. For a more Pinoy flavor, go for the Pan de Bistec and Pan De Lechon.

WING ZONE is a global restaurant brand from the US with more than 125 outlets worldwide and a constant winner in the National Buffalo Wing Festival in Buffalo, New York, where the recipe originated (in fact, Wing Zone’s Buffalo Bliss is the official flavor in its wing-eating competition!).  Their signature wing flavors are: Tokyo Dragon and Sweet Samurai (inspired by Japanese spices), the Thai Chili, the classic Buffalo Bliss and its amped-up cousins the Hot Shot and Nuclear Habanero. Plus 11 other flavors to choose from!
